November 7, 2014
I ran the Wine and Dine half marathon in 2011 before runDisney moved the date to November (to make room for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler). I really enjoyed the race when I did it. It’s a point to point race that begins at the Wide World of Sports Complex and takes runners through Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. At the end of the race, runners and their guests enjoy and after party in EPCOT where they can enjoy the annual Food and Wine Festival. Some attractions are open as well so runners get to enjoy a less crowded park.
I drop my pups at the kennel on my way up to the Health and Fitness Expo. I am running both the 5k and the half marathon so I need to get both bibs today. I don’t anticipate this pickup to take too long since it’s later in the evening.
I arrive at the Wide World of Sports Complex and get quite a good parking spot. I head to bib pickup first. I already have my waivers printed and signed so the pickup process takes me less than five minutes. I also get my commemorative pins while I’m here since I pre-ordered them. Then, I head across to the expo. I have to go to the expo to get my race shirts and gear bags. I’ll take a look around at the merchandise as well. I don’t plan on buying anything except my vinylmation mini medal but you never know.
I get my race shirts and gear bags. The exit leads me into the official merchandise area so I find my vinylmation medal and then look at all of the other stuff. I don’t find anything that I want so I spend my $2 and exit the booth. I walked around the expo for about half an hour. The vendors are common to a lot of the Health and Fitness Expos. I look at headbands, t-shirts, compression socks, and an assortment of other goodies but I just don’t see anything I need.
After the expo, I head over to Pop Century to check-in to my room. I’m on my own this weekend but I know several people that are running as well. I’m sure I’ll bump into many of them while we’re here. I don’t have any specific plans and I’m not going to the parks. My plan is to take it easy and have a nice weekend. It looks to be nice weather for the 5k and I’m hoping the rain will stay away for the half.
When I’m settled, I take a minute to check the official Race Guide so I know what time I need to be up and what time the buses will run. Even though I’ve probably set 10 alarms, I need to reassure myself!
There’s an early morning and a long day ahead of me. So, gotta run!
