I’ve been posting a lot more in some of the running groups I follow on Facebook. I posted my picture this morning; I’m running as a Pizza Planet delivery girl complete with a pizza box. I caught the bus to Animal Kingdom for the race and several folks complimented my costume. I have to admit, the apron is pretty handy. I have my poncho and my phone in the pockets.
While I was waiting, I met one of the other members of one of the Facebook groups, Alex. It was really nice to put a face with the name. We chatted until it was time to head to our corrals.
The course for the Jingle Jungle 5k is very similar to the course used for the Expedition Everest Challenge. This course, however, won’t have the obstacles.
I knew going into the race that I would stop for some pictures as long as lines weren’t hideous. I made my way towards the front of my corral so that when we could run, I wouldn’t be too much in the mix. It certainly made it easier to get out of the traffic more quickly.
As we entered the park, I stopped for the first picture stop with Goofy. I waited about five minutes in this line. I jumped back on the course and the next photo I completely missed. I actually ran by it before I realized it was a photo line so I decided not to turn around and run back. This is generally one of my biggest issues with the course photo ops; I don’t know when they are coming up and I don’t know who they are. It would be awesome if there was a sign alerting runners of the upcoming photo about 50 yards or so before the picture stop. And, it would be even more awesome if the photo line would run past the picture stop instead of before it. What I mean is this: if I am running and there is a line, I likely want to see who it is so I can determine if I want to wait. If I run past the line, I have to turn around and run back which means I am running against the flow of the race course. If the line were past the character stop, I could see the character as I pass and then jump in line when I reach the end of the line.
Most of the rest of the character stops were either too long or I didn’t know who they were at first glance. So, I ended up not stopping for any other photos. I was a little bummed about this but it isn’t like I’ll never run another runDisney race.
I caught up to Alex, well, sort of. He was running a section of the course that is an out and back loop. He was coming back and I was headed out. We yelled as we passed each other.
This was a really fun little race. The course is fantastic. I really enjoyed running through Animal Kingdom. Since it was a fun run, there is no official time. My Garmin said 42:31 though. Not bad with one picture stop.
I got a ton of comments on my Pizza Planet costume. I did have one person, actually the volunteer that gave me my medallion after I crossed the finish line, call me a Pizza Hut delivery girl. Yea; not so much. But, I laughed it off. She obviously doesn’t know Toy Story.
Now that I’m done for the morning, I’m going to relax and take a nap. The race tonight begins at 10. I won’t be able to function so late if I don’t get a little sleep.
Until tonight…gotta run.
