Watermelon Series #4

August 23, 2014

It’s the final race of the Watermelon Series and it is a hot day. I’ve been up and down with my times in the series thus far. But, I am feeling pretty good today and I’m going to do my best to make this last race my best of the series.

I received my t-shirt when I picked up my bib. I don’t want to carry it during the race so I walk back to my car to put it away. I am already sweating.

I line up near the middle of the pack just as usual. It isn’t long before the gun sounds and my run begins.

I have my intervals set for 1/1 but I run a about five minutes while the pack thins out some. I feel very good and when I reach the first mile, I find I am on a good pace. I keep with my intervals and I feel as though I am running easily during my run segments. I definitely feel relaxed.

I walk through the water stop so I can actually drink the water rather than wear most of it. The water is barely cool but it is good. It really is hot and humid. I begin running again as I toss my cup to the side.

I take my last walk interval with the finish line just ahead. As I begin the last run, I push myself to the end. I finish my run in 34:56; my best run of the series.

I get some water from the coolers and it is so cold and refreshing. I am really sweaty and the water is great. I eye the watermelon as well. Though I don’t really like watermelon, it looks refreshing as well. But, I have an apple in the car so I’ll eat that.

I enjoyed the Watermelon series races. They were organized and there was plenty of refreshments for all of the runners. The Lakeland Runner’s Club does a great job with their events and I will certainly run more of them.
