Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Health & Fitness Expo

August 28, 2015

I flew into Anaheim this morning. I left Orlando around 6:30 AM and finally got to Anaheim about 11. I had arranged for Super Shuttle as transportation to my hotel. I’m staying at the Best Western Stovalls Inn this time. It is supposedly a close walk to the start/finish area for the races as well as packet pickup and the expo.

I am pretty tired when I arrive even though I was able to catch a few winks on the plane. I am notorious for falling asleep before we even push away from the gate and I usually sleep most of the flight. In my defense, I was up a lot of the night packing; because I do that last minute; and I had to leave my house by 3:30 AM to make it to the airport, park, and get through security. Sleep on a plane is never good sleep though.

Once I got to the hotel and got settled in my room, I took a nap for a couple of hours. My plan is to stay on east coast time as much as possible so I don’t feel the jet lag so badly when I get back home. I’ll hit the expo and get some lunch after my nap.

My nap was pretty good. The hotel isn’t bad. The bed is quite comfortable; there is a mini-fridge and a microwave and the room is clean. There is also free wi-fi. Since I really just need it for sleeping and showering, this is fine for me. Breakfast is also included so I guess I’ll check that out in the morning.

I head over to the expo and to packet pickup. From my hotel, it was about a ten minute walk. The hotel is right on the corner so I only have one major street to cross. I walk past the Paradise Pier hotel and the Grand Californian on my way to the convention center.

I am prepared, as always, with my waivers printed out and signed. I stop first at the Family Fun Run 5k booth and get my bib there. Then I head to the Dumbo Double Dare booth and get my bib for the 10k and half marathon. I also get my commemorative pins when I pickup my bibs. I preorder these so I don’t miss out on getting them. I am given an Event Guide and a wristband for coast to coast as well. Since I completed the Dopey Challenge, I am eligible for a second coast to coast this year (I already received the pink coast to coast at Princess).

After getting my bibs and such, I head back upstairs to hit the expo and get my race shirts. When I get my race shirts, I am also given my gear check bags, so I throw my bibs and commemorative items in those. Then I walk around for a bit. I know that I need to get my vinylmation medal and I need to get some Gu Chomps or Clif Blocks for the half. Other than that, I don’t really find anything that I just need to buy.

The expo is much smaller at the California races than at the Florida races but there are a lot of the same vendors. I don’t buy a lot of stuff anyhow and I really don’t buy a lot when I’m traveling because, well, I have to lug it all back home.

I’m excited to run these races this weekend. I’m by myself as my cheer-tator wasn’t able to make it out with me this time. But, I am planning to meet up with some folks from some of my favorite Facebook running groups. So, even though I am by myself, I’m not really by myself. That’s the great thing about running; you have friends all over the place!

The 5k is in the morning. So…gotta run.
